This San Holo song entered my bloodstream during long and lonely stretches of the second wave lockdown. It’s forever linked in my mind with the joy of seeing the face of a friend, reminding me that I am not alone, producing antibodies to fend off questioning. This is a celebration of those moments.
This is also a step forward. I’ve written string arrangements for performance and recording with others, but this is the first time I’ve written a score for home studio production. It’s also the first time I’ve played cajón, and the first time I’ve recorded piano. As part of my renewed commitment to creating music (and combating the taste gap), I’m intentionally selecting specific covers to prepare for recording my own songs. From arrangement to performance to recording engineering to mixing and video production — all using free (libre) software — there’s a lot still to learn. This is a big step forward.
